Heavy snow wiped out all bus services in Tain and many surrounding Highland routes this morning.

Highland Council blamed untreated roads for suspending all services across the region until further notice.

Stagecoach Highland also suspended all Inverness services, with both operators saying school services were included in the cancellations. D&E Coaches has now done the same.

Most services in the Tain area were also cancelled including school services.

A Highland Council spokesman said: “Due to the overnight snowfall and currently untreated roads, all Highland Council bus operations are suspended until further notice.

“Please check with other local operators regarding their services.

“Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this but driver and passenger safety are of paramount importance to us.

“Updates will follow.”

A Stagecoach spokeswoman said: “All services across Inverness are suspended until further notice due to road conditions.

“Updates shall be provided throughout the day. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Train services to and from Inverness and on the Kyle line and Far North Line were reported to be running as normal.

But Inverness airport users experienced delays with both the Loganair 06:30 Inverness to Manchester and Easyjet 06:35 Inverness to Gatwick services currently delayed.

More updates will follow throughout the morning.
