An experienced Easter Ross lorry driver who performed a unsafe overtake on the A96 kept his driving licence when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Stuart Revill, of Anderson Drive, Fortrose was approaching the Auldearn junction east of Nairn on April 26 last year when he pulled out to pass a car in the face of oncoming traffic.

His manoeuvre was reported to the police and when the 55-year-old appeared before Sheriff Ian Cruickshank, he admitted a charge of careless driving.

The sheriff said it was an offence at the higher end of careless driving but decided it did not merit a disqualification.

Instead, he fined Revill £940 and endorsed his previously clean driving licence with seven penalty points.
