Gairloch Museum welcomes new cafe team and bids fond farewell to ‘wonderful’ colleague

IT has been a case of say hello and wave goodbye at a popular Wester Ross museum cafe.

Gairloch Museum’s Am Bard cafe wished a fond farewell to Sally Cameron who joined the team back in 2021 and is credited with helping to make it a superb destination visit.

The new Am Bàrd cafe team comprises cafe manager, Noreen Mackenzie and her two assistants, Jen and Shonagh.

Noreen was born and brought up in Inverasdale. She attended Gairloch High School then went on to further her Gaelic studies at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig before heading to Inverness to study Hotel Management & Catering, after which returning home to raise her family.

Working in various hospitality roles throughout the years, she spent more than 20 years at the Myrtle Bank Hotel, Gairloch where she worked her way up from front of house to chef.

A spokeswoman for the award-winning museum said: “We're all looking forward to the season ahead - and welcoming the many visitors to Wester Ross to Am Bàrd. Fàilte is furan.”

Sally Cameron and her husband and son have meanwhile taken on The Shop at the Pier in Gairloch to start a new chapter.

The museum posted: “We said a very fond farewell to Sally Cameron our wonderful cafe manager who has been with us for nearly five years.

“Sally took on the not insignificant task of setting up the cafe during Covid times. She created a wonderful menu showcasing some of the best Scottish - and at times very local! - ingredients, with high praise for her baking and savoury selection.

“With a highly seasonal operation, Sally was supported by an amazing group of part-time staff and volunteers who all pitched in to make the cafe a warm and welcoming place serving great food and fantastic coffee and cakes.

“We wish Sally all the very best with her next adventure - you might bump into her at The Shop At The Pier or even doing the occasional shift with Coast Coffee or helping us out here at the Museum. We thank her from the bottom of our hearts for all her hard work in making Am Bàrd a superb destination and wonderful addition to the museum experience.”
