Plea to animal lovers as Highland centre reveals special open day plans
A HIGHLAND animal welfare centre is throwing open the doors of its facility in a bid to help find "forever homes" for some of its residents – amongst them a dog which has been a guest there for over a year.
The Scottish SPCA centre in Inverness is inviting locals to hear all about the work that goes on behind their doors, learn about the animals looking forhomes and enjoy a day of family friendly fun.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity is celebrating its annual #RehomingWeek2019 (May 13 -19) by hosting open days and aiming to find homes for the longest residents.
Manager of the Scottish SPCA animal rescue centre in Inverness, Elaine Floyd said: “Rehoming Week is the perfect time to try and find these pets a loving new home as we’re able to spread the word about all the wonderful animals in our care and share information about the rehoming process with the public.
“Our longest resident is Flash the Labrador cross dog. He has been with us for 396 days.
“Flash is a lovable rogue looking for his forever home. This gorgeous lad is looking for an experienced, active, adult only home as he can be quite strong on the lead. However, he is improving with time.
“Flash can get a little over excited at times so an owner who is quiet and patient is a must. Although he still acts like a puppy at heart Flash can be unsure of new people and surroundings but once he gets to know you, he will greet you with his soft toy or blanket held in his mouth.
“This big boisterous boy has previously lived with other canines so could again after a successful introduction at the centre. Unfortunately, we don't know how he would be with cats or small furries.
“Whilst our expert teams are well placed to give these animals the love and care they need, we know nothing compares to a loving forever home.”
Elaine encourages the public to come along to the open day, taking place on 12 May between 12pm - 4pm at the Inverness Campus, Inverness IV2 5NA, adding, “Previous open days have proven to be tremendous fun for humans and animals, and we expect this one to deliver fun for all the family.”
“We have a tombola, bouncy castle, fairground rides, ice cream van and so much more.”
