A HIGHLAND chippie favoured by celebrities has been put up for sale.

La Mirage restaurant and takeaway, a quirky and highly regarded fish and chip restaurant in Helmsdale, was famously frequented by the romantic novelist Dame Barbara Cartland and celebrity chef Clarissa Dickson Wright.

Offering home cooked food in a unique atmosphere, La Mirage has the most incredible collection of weird and wonderful appurtenances, including palm trees, flying flamingos and mannequins.

La Mirage caters for up to 45 covers. The takeaway business is situated next door and is accessed as a separate shop.

The two and a half storey High Street property also encompasses a spacious owner’s accommodation.

Barry McNeil, of Christie and Co’s Edinburgh office which is handling the sale, said: "The business has been in our clients’ hands since 2003 and has continuously performed at impressive trading levels. Our clients now wish to sell in order to consider their retirement."
