Highland Council education committee meeting hit by technical glitch; Meeting considers return to classrooms after summer
Parents and pupils will have to wait to hear what Highland Council will do about the return of education after technical problems forced a meeting offline.
The committee meeting today had been due to be broadcast over the internet, but the council's own connection went down.
The meeting continued without public access and a recording will be made available later.
The education committee was considering plans for the return of schools in August and was also due to receive an update on plans for an early learning and childcare programme which was supposed to offer more free hours to parents from August.
With more meetings being held online as Covid-19 restrictions continue the first full meeting of Highland Council since before the lockdown began was held last week but had to be restarted due to technical issues.
At the start of the Covid-19 crisis, some council officers were also told not to log on at certain times of day due to the system being overloaded.
A council spokeswoman said: "Due to the loss of internet connection at Highland Council’s HQ this morning, it was not possible to broadcast the public webcast of the education committee as the functionality of that process is carried out within the HQ building.
"The meeting is still being held via Microsoft Teams and a recording will be made available on July 3 on the council’s website."
