Cromarty Firth by election SNP candidate sets out her stall
It is a case of giving it another go for the SNP candidate in the upcoming Cromarty Firth by election.
Odette Macdonald previously ran in the September 2024 by-election in the same ward, created by the resignations of Molly Nolan and Pauline Munro.
Then she was pipped to the post in the 10th round of vote transfer, having received 403 first preference ballots.
Now she is hoping it is a case of second time lucky, with the June 19 contest having been sparked by the resignation of Maxine Smith.
Ms Macdonald is a caseworker for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross SNP MSP Maree Todd who said: “People in Cromarty Firth need the steady hand of a high quality candidate like Odette. She knows what the job entails and will hit the ground running.
“In the years I’ve worked with Odette, I’ve always valued her kindness, her time for people and her compassion.
“Now is the time for her to bring those skills, experiences and care for people to the Highland Council ensuring that the voices of the people of Cromarty Firth are heard in the chamber.”
Ms Macdonald said: “I know the area well and I understand the challenges facing the people.
“Only the SNP are focussed on the priorities of the people of Cromarty Firth and of Scotland and that why we are: bringing back winter heating help for pensioners; eradicating child poverty; funding the NHS to cut waits and make it easier to see your GP; growing our economy and creating jobs; building more affordable homes.
“We already have a first class, hard working councillor in Tamala Collier, and I know - with your support - that I can be a partner to her, working to get the very best of Cromarty Firth.”
Ms Collier said: “I’ve known Odette for a long time and I can’t think of a better person to work with.
“We all know the challenges that Cromarty Firth has faced, alongside how much potential we have in our industry and in our people.
“Having someone like Odette to work alongside would allow us to grow and get the best for everyone in Ward 6.”
