Incident closes A9 in both directions near the Golden Bridge in Inverness
An incident at the Golden Bridge has closed the A9 dual-carriageway in both directions with long tailbacks of traffic forming.
Police and ambulance were on scene at the roadside not long after 7am today. The Golden Bridge is a footbridge linking Raigmore area with the Inverness Campus.
Officers have blocked the carriageway at the Raigmore interchange so traffic from the A96 and the A9 north cannot travel south on this route.
Police Scotland said: The A9 between the Raigmore Interchange and Inshes is closed due to a road traffic incident.
“The Golden Bridge is also closed. Members of the public are asked to find alternative routes. Police were contacted around 7.10am this morning and remain on the scene.”
It also appears that significant congestion is building up on the A96, the southern distributor road (West Link), Culloden Road and Tower Road.
