Invergordon host Loch Ness RNLI for pit stop on their gruelling 200km fundraising cycle
Invergordon hosted the Loch Ness RNLI team while they took a pit stop from their 200km ride across the Highlands, in aid of the charity’s 200th anniversary.
At the weekend (Sunday, July 14), six members of the Loch Ness RNLI lifeboat station completed a 200km cycle in celebration of the RNLI’s 200th anniversary, raising an incredible £3463 in the process.
The 12-hour cycle took crew members Kieron, Toby, Diane, Darroch, Kenny and John from Drumnadrochit to North Kessock, the Black Isle, Nigg, Invergordon, Dingwall and Cannich before returning to a warm welcome back in the village.
During the cycle, the team also made pit stops at neighbouring stations, Kessock and Invergordon.
Kieron Tarling, volunteer helm at Loch Ness RNLI lifeboat station, said: “This year marks the 200th anniversary of the RNLI and the team organised a 200km cycle across the Highlands to commemorate the occasion.
“We’re blown away by the support we received and cannot thank everyone enough for their donations and encouragement. Our initial target was £2000 so to have raised more than £3000 is fantastic.
“We also have to give a special mention to Park’s Land Rover in Inverness who kindly provided a support vehicle for us with food and spare clothes, without which we would never have completed the full route.
“It was a huge challenge for us all but knowing that donations were flooding in throughout the ride was a great motivator and pushed the team over the finish line in Drumnadrochit.
“Every donation makes a difference but we’re especially grateful for the support from our local community and wider public which raises awareness of the RNLI and contributes to our work saving lives at sea.
“Every member of the crew at Loch Ness lifeboat station is a volunteer and we couldn’t do what we do without this support.”
