British Airways flights between Inverness and London cancelled following Heathrow power outage
Flights between Inverness and Heathrow have been cancelled this morning following a power outage at the London Airport.
Following a fire at an electrical substation, Heathrow is among the businesses impacted by a power cut, which led to the 10am flight to Inverness and the 11.05am flight to the London airport - operated by British Airways -being cancelled.
According to flight tracking service FlightRadar24, more than 1350 flights will be impacted, with disruption to air travel expected to last more than 24 hours.
A British Airways spokesperson said: “Due to a power outage in the London Heathrow area, London Heathrow Airport is currently closed. As a result, customers due to travel from Heathrow on Friday are advised not to travel to the airport until further notice.
“This will clearly have a significant impact on our operation and our customers and we’re working as quickly as possible to update them on their travel options for the next 24 hours and beyond.”
As it is estimated that 120 flights to the airport were in the air when the closure was announced, the airline said that they redirected inbound flights already on their way to Heathrow to other UK airports where possible.
