An Inverness-based solicitor, estate agent and letting agent has announced a range of promotions within its legal team, confirming four new appointments.

Macleod and MacCallum, who also have a base in Portree, have this week made moves to appoint Aidan Grant and Laura McCarthy as senior associates, alongside Elizabeth Wilson and Gemma Johnston who have both been promoted to the position of associates.

The announcement was confirmed by the company, who have been serving clients across the Highlands and Islands for over 60 years, on Tuesday.

The first of two senior associate appointments, Aidan Grant began his legal career with Macleod and MacCallum in 2016.

As a trainee solicitor in the firm’s residential team, Aidan has proved himself to be an invaluable member of the team.

His knowledge of the local property market has helped hundreds of clients when buying or selling property.

Laura McCarthy, joining Aidan as a senior associate, started with the company in 2023, having formerly been a partner at another local Inverness legal practice.

She has recently been accredited as a specialist in family law by the Law Society of Scotland, a formal recognition of her expertise in all aspects of family law, allowing her to provide high quality empathetic advice to clients.

Associate Elizabeth Wilson is a vital member of the firm’s Private Client team, helping clients with the preparation of wills, powers of attorney and trusts, at one of the most difficult times for people following a death of a family member or friend.

Elizabeth is accredited as a trust and estate practitioner by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, bringing expertise to the local area.

Gemma Johnston, another newly appointed associate, also started her journey in law with Macleod and MacCallum, as a trainee solicitor in our Family Law team.

Her development has added further strength to the local team and she has been awarded a certification in child-centred practice from the Law Society of Scotland – a prestigious qualification allowing solicitors to use their legal skills to make sure that children and young people are always kept at the heart of every decision made about them.

Macleod & MacCallum chief executive Alison Martin has hailed new appointments within the firm as evidence of “hard work” put in by all four associates, and due recognition for their efforts.

“We are delighted to make these promotions within the firm,” she said.

“It is a recognition of the hard work put in by Aidan, Laura, Elizabeth and Gemma in serving their clients throughout the Highlands and Islands.”

Macleod & MacCallum managing director Peter Mason says the new associates will play a “major part” in the future growth of the Highland company.

He added: “These promotions are well deserved – as a firm we believe in encouraging all of our staff to maximise their potential, and it is great to see the continued development and progress of Aidan, Laura, Elizabeth and Gemma.

“We always aim to secure the best legal services for our clients.

“These promotions represent a combination of strategies with Aidan and Gemma, both Inverness-born solicitors who trained and qualified with the firm complementing the expertise of Laura and Elizabeth who joined the firm after working at other local companies.

“We have no doubt that all four of our newly promoted colleagues will play a major part in the continued growth of Macleod & MacCallum and the board of directors are delighted to see them recognised for their ongoing efforts.”

Over the past 60 years, Macleod & MacCallum has developed a full range of legal and property services enabling them to effectively and efficiently deal with and respond to all of their clients needs – whether they are an individual or a business.
