Crowdfunders pass £2000 as Nairn residents rally round families who lost homes in devastating flats fire
KIND-hearted Nairn residents are rallying round after a fire devastated a block of flats in the town – and crowdfunding appeals set up to help have already passed £2000.
Jenny Fountain and Lindsay Crichton both set up appeals to help the families who lost everything in the fire in Harbour Street at 1pm after eight different flats were completely consumed by the blaze.
All that was left was a shell, with firefighters warning yesterday evening that the building was at risk of collapse.
In an attempt to help those families affected by the fire, Jenny Fountain set up a page on GoFundMe last night which, at the time of writing on Saturday morning, was just shy of £1200 and rising rapidly.

On the page, which she shared to the Nairn Rocks Facebook page, she said: "Just setting this up as i know a lot of people would like to help. Many people lost their houses, memories and belongings today. Nairn truly does rock and I would love to help as much as I can."
The fundraiser can be accessed at www.gofundme.com/f/flat-fire-help.
Lindsay Crichton, meanwhile, created a page on JustGiving which, at the time of writing, had raised just under £900.
"I am setting up this page after a horrific incident happened in my home town today which resulted in eight flats being burnt, and leaving eight families with absolutely nothing," she said. "It's just total heartbreaking I can't sit back and do nothing so I have decided to set this page up to help the families and try and bring some comfort and joy back to them."
Her page can be accessed at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/lindsay-crichton.
Other kind-hearted gestures have also been made within the community, with the Nairn Legion offering its lounge as a welcome meeting place for those affected should they require it. Posting to the Nairn Rocks Facebook page, Bob Towns said there would be complimentary tea and coffee available for those affected, and the site would be open from 10.30am this morning.
