1,000 homes hit by power cut in Inverness
Homes in Inshes in Inverness were among those hit by power cut
ONE thousand homes in Inverness were hit by a power cut this morning.
Properties in the Inshes, Culloden, Cradlehall and Westhill areas of the city were affected from just after 8am.
Emergency repair teams from power firm Scottish and Southern Energy were dispatched, with work getting under way near Simpsons Garden Centre at Inshes.
They undertook a procedure called "switching", which involves switching over different parts of the network to identify the fault. A Scottish and Southern Energy spokeswoman said this enabled all supplies to be restored by 9.45am.
The spokeswoman said: "We have not identified any fault. We would like to apologise to customers for the failure."
The area affected takes in Northern Constabulary’s Old Perth Road headquarters and Raigmore Hospital. However, both buildings have emergency generators for use during power failures. Tesco Inshes was also hit by the failure for a short period.
