Defeat knocks Forres off top

LONG-time Highland League leaders Forres Mechanics were knocked off the top by a 4-2 defeat at Huntly on Saturday.

Charlie Rowley's men were overtaken by Cove Rangers, who won 3-2 at Rothes to grab pole position.

It was a bad day for Forres defender Simon Allan, who scored an own goal to give Huntly an early lead and later missed a penalty kick.

Willie Barron scored for the Cans on 26 minutes to cancel out Allan's 3rd minute faux-pas, but David Booth struck twice to put Huntly in command at the break.

Despire Allan's spot kick miss, Garry Tweedie netted to give Forres hope before Andrzej Kleczkowski's injury time effort sealed the points for the Christie Park men.

Three second half strikes earned Cove full points at Rothes and moved them a point clear of Forres, who still have two games in hand.

Keith came from behind to grab a resounding 5-1 success at home to Formartine United.

Sean Keith cancelled out Kyle Macauley's opener and his brother Cammy netted twice late on, after counters by Andy McAskill and Andy Anderson turned the match in the Maroons' favour.

Wick won 3-1 at Fraserburgh, Turriff beat Fort William 5-0 and Inverurie thumped Brora 6-1 in the Highland League's other matches to beat the weather.
