INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle will require a replay to make it to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup after being held to a 1-1 draw by Edinburgh City.

The visitors started the game off well and had a couple of chances to take the lead during the first quarter of the game.

Liam Polworth was presented with a golden opportunity when he was put through by a Nathan Austin pass but former Nairn County goalkeeper Callum Antell sprung off his line to block his shot.

Austin then had a great chance when he beat the offside trap to run on to a long ball from Joe Chalmers. His powerful shot was parried on to the crossbar by Antell before City’s defence dealt with the corner.

But Inverness broke the deadlock four minutes before half time when Shaun Rooney met Liam Polworth’s corner at the far post and managed to nod the ball into the top right corner of the net.

But Edinburgh equalised with four minutes remaining when Liam Henderson beat the ICT defence in the air to score from close range with a header to force a replay.

ICT: Ridgers, Rooney (Trafford 74), Chalmers, Donaldson, McCart, Polworth, Austin (Oakley 53), Walsh, Welsh, White (Mackay 70) McKay.
