RSPB to stage family fun days at Dunnet Head
THE RSPB is organising two family fun days at Dunnet Head nature reserve next month.
They take place next Wednesday (July 6) and two weeks later on Wednesday, July 20, from 11am until 3pm.
Dave Jones, RSPB site manager at Dunnet Head, said: "We are hoping to welcome lots of visitors to the head for a range of activities. This will include activities for youngsters such as badge-making but also guided walks for people wishing to learn more about the wildlife at Dunnet."
Dave is site manager for two RSPB reserves in Caithness – the other is Broubster Leans – and gains huge satisfaction from showing visitors the sights and the birds as well as talking about the fascinating history of Dunnet Head.
"Dunnet Head attracts a very wide range of visitors. Some come because, of course, it is the most northerly point of mainland Britain. Others come for the spectacular views across to Orkney and Cape Wrath. Others come because of the wildlife.
"Still others love to see the lighthouse or try to imagine what it was like during the war when it was a major military installation. One thing is for sure, there’s always something to see and learn and Dunnet Head."
