HEROIN with an estimated street value of more than £50,000 has been recovered in New Elgin.

In what the police describe as an "intelligence-led" operation, a search warrant was executed by local officer on Saturday.

As a result a 55-year-old local woman has been charged and is expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court today.

PC Steve Borzoni said: "The supply of illegal drugs has a devastating impact upon our communities.

"We are committed to seizing every opportunity to detect and disrupt the activities of those intent on supplying drugs.

"This recovery would not have been possible without the support of the local community. I continue to encourage the public to pass information to police via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Help us end the misery and suffering caused by illicit drug supply."
