Cash boost as Dry hammers on remorselessly

GOING a whole year without a single break is Moray athlete Mark Dry’s way of ‘hammering’ home his determination to making the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The Scottish hammer thrower, who was brought up in Burghead, saw his dream of competing in the London Olympics shattered when the GB selectors picked Englishman Alex Smith in his place.

But Dry (25) has put his Olympic heartache behind him and channelled his energies towards his home Glasgow games in two years time.

He revealed to ‘The Northern Scot’ how he has not taken a rest from his sport in more than a year, and plans to use a £3,000 funding boost to increase his chances of Commonwealth glory.

“I’ve not taken any time off since October, 2011, which is quite scary......or sad,” Mark said. “But I’m in one piece, and no break has seen me continue to improve.

“I’ve just been pounding in training, and had a last few competitions which were good results of 73s and a 74, which for the time of year is awesome.
