Book now for His Majesty's tour
ABERDEEN'S Edwardian architectural masterpiece His Majesty's Theatre kicks off a new series of behind-the-scenes weekend tours for 2014 later this month.
The 75-minute Saturday morning tours, which lift the curtain on the history and day-to-day workings of the historic theatre, resume again on Saturday, January 25, and run weekly until Saturday, April 26.
"Under the guidance of enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, visitors can explore His Majesty's modern £7.8 million extension as well as the 100-year-old original building, designed by the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham," said Aberdeen Performing Arts' Joyce Summers.
"There's an opportunity to get on stage and get a performers' eye view of one of the most beautiful theatres in Britain.
"Then, it's backstage for a glimpse of the inner workings of a busy theatre – and pick up some inside knowledge of its spooky past."
Free tours can be organised for schools and community groups subject to availability.
Information on educational tours for groups is available from the Aberdeen Performing Arts' Creative Learning team on 01224 337684 or by email from: creativelearning@aberdeenperformingarts.com
Public tours are limited to just 20 people per tour and booked on a first come, first served basis as places sell out very quickly.
Tickets for the public tours, priced at £5 and £3 for concessions, can be booked online through Aberdeen Box Office at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, in person at the Music Hall or His Majesty's Theatre or by phone on 01224 641122.
