INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle midfielder Riccardo Calder has been sacked from the club following being found guilty of assault.

The 22-year-old midfielder was convicted on Tuesday of kicking and punching a 24-year-old woman through her car window several times at Kings Heath, Birmingham on May 7.

It was reported the incident happened after the victim's car collided with the back of the footballer's car.

As a result of the assault, the victim suffered significant injuries which included bruising to her face, a fractured thumb and a cut lip.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle released a statement which said: "Following a trial at Birmingham Magistrates' Court this week and the subsequent guilty verdict, Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club can confirm that it has terminated the registration of Riccardo Calder with immediate effect.

"Due to the ongoing legal process in England, the club will not be making any further comment on the matter."

Calder will be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, December 4.
