Goats still on the Mound

By SPP Reporter

WITH reference to Ray Collier's article of January 13 regarding the wild goat population, I would like to let you know that I can confirm that the Mound population of wild goats are fit and well.

My friend and I were on a bird watching expedition, and on calling at the Mound were disappointed to find it ice-bound, with no birds.

We proceeded to the Bountiful Bay near to Little Ferry in the vicinity of Golspie, and after leaving the Mound my friend and I saw a number of wild goats feeding on a bracken-clad area on the North slope.

As I was driving, I could not confirm this, but on arrival at the Bountiful Bay, I observed five goats on the North slope by my binoculars. I directed my friend's attention to this, and with his high-powered telescope we were able to confirm my sighting, and a further sighting of other goats on the North slope, further down the hill.

I hope this information will prove useful to Mr Collier. His articles are much appreciated.
