Elgin Scouts raising dough to replace bread van
AN ELGIN Scout group are looking to raise some dough so that they can get rid of their dilapidated bread van.
The 2nd Elgin Scouts have used an old bread van for years to store equipment.
However, it is full to bursting point, and has outlived its usefulness.
Assistant Scout Leader Russell Scott said: "We have obtained planning permission for two 20-foot ISO shipping containers alongside the Lesmurdie Scout hut to give us proper storage and drying facilities."
In order to progress to the next stage of their plan, the Scouts are looking for support in a number of possible ways.
Donations, help with ground preparation, temporary storage of the containers in Elgin and help in obtaining the containers would be invaluable.
"It is an old van with a roller door which has been there for many years," said Mr Scott.
"It would be great to get the containers in as soon as possible so that we don’t have to go through another winter with the old store," he added.
The flourishing 2nd Elgin group needs more room for its growing range of equipment.
"2nd Elgin is currently the largest group in Moray," said Mr Scott, "and Scouting is growing in popularity, with Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer sections for six- to 18-year-olds.
There are around 100 members of the group, both boys and girls.
"With activities around the year, our equipment sees all sorts of conditions," he added, "ao it’s important to have good storage to keep it in good condition and ready for its next use."
