Polworth sounds Clach battle cry

By Paul Chalk

CLACH manager Iain Polworth is urging his troops to rise to the challenge against Cove Rangers on Saturday to help to forget their Allan Park horror show.

The Inverness side were blitzed 7-0 against Cove on March 26 in the Highland League, but the boss wants his young Lilywhites to battle and scrap for every ball.

Last weekend, Clach crashed 4-0 away to Inverurie Locos, with Neil MacDonald sent off not long after Locos keeper Andy Reid was red-carded for a separate incident.

A Stuart Leslie penalty was saved when Clach trailed 2-0 and they missed other opportunities to make the contest a far closer affair.

Polworth said: “We competed well for the first 20 minutes, but we were soon behind and punished for a costly mistake. Then we were 2-0 down, but we had the chance to get back into it before half-time, but missed a really good chance.

“Stuart’s penalty was saved, also at 2-0, and that was the turning point as they hit us on the break.

“That was as many chances as we have ever created away to Inverurie in my time here, so that’s encouraging, but we only have ourselves to blame for the scoreline not being closer.”

With home advantage this weekend against Cove, Polworth stressed: “What I am looking for is the team to compete much better than they did last time we played Cove. That was an embarrassment, a day we want to forget and we need to be much stronger on Saturday.”
