Highland Hospice sisters urge walkers to tackle... the Five Sisters!
FIVE Highland Hospice nursing sisters are urging people from all over the Highlands to don their trainers and sign up for this year’s Great Wilderness Challenge - including the Five Sister of Kintail.
For Chrissie Merrick, Susan Smith, Bruna Nelson, Nancy MacDonald and Esther McIntyre got together to launch the Highland Hospice’s search for participants in this sponsored event which takes place in Kintail on Saturday August 20.
Earlier this year, the Hospice received a tremendous £85,000, generated from last year’s Challenge.
Highland Hospice has places available on all routes of the event - the 8, 10 and 18 mile. These three routes are highly scenic, surrounded by an array of Munros and Corbetts including the famous Five Sisters of Kintail range, and intermingled with wild glens, dramatic corries, secluded lochs and spectacular waterfalls.
Linda Macdonald, fundraising manager for Highland Hospice said: "If anyone would like to raise essential funds for Highland Hospice by participating in this year’s event, please do get in touch. Every penny raised from the Great Wilderness Challenge will go a long way towards helping us to continue to care for individuals with life-limiting illness and their families, all over the Highlands. We are so very grateful for the support we receive from this event – it really is overwhelming."
Alex Macrae, one of the founders of the Great Wilderness Challenge said: "We are delighted once again to have Highland Hospice as our main benefiting charity. This event began 26 years ago to help raise funds for the Hospice movement in the Highlands. It is remarkable to see just how far things have progressed since then, and we are always aware that Highland Hospice needs an incredible amount of money each year just to survive."
