TIME is running out for Sutherland residents to vote for a design for a flag to represent the county.

The deadline for voting is Monday, November 26.

Anyone who still wants to register their preference can do so online at www.flaginstitute.org/wp/newhome/sutherland

A choice of four designs have been put forward but the process so far has been controversial.

Meanwhile Northern Times readers are continuing to send in their own designs.

The latest contribution (pictured) comes from professional designer Grant Coghill who has re-jigged the original winner of the design competition run earlier this year.

That design, chosen by a selection panel, was widely criticised and as a result it was decided to go to a public vote.

But the choice of four flags now on offer has also been condemned and calls have been made for the entire competition to be abandoned.

However, according to the Flag Institute, which is running the vote, there has been a good response with voting brisk.

Mr Coghill, a Tongue native, said: "I feel that the eagle design is actually a good idea and makes sense for Sutherland.

"I think the major problem is just in the execution of the eagle itself.

"I agree too, that the current eagle looks wrong and just a bit silly.

"I have re-designed the original flag and I strongly feel that this design issue can quite easily be solved with a fresh approach taken on the original concept."
