Pregnant mum threw punch in lunch row

By Glen Clark

A YOUNG mum turned up at her ex-partner's house and tried to hit him after an argument over a missed lunch date.

Jamie Smith (22), of William Street, Nairn, has three children and is pregnant with her fourth child to her ex, Jamie Abbot, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.

Depute fiscal Lene Doherty told how, on September 8 last year, Mr Abbot received a phone call from Smith stating that she was outside and wanted to speak to him.

She said: "When Mr Abbot went to speak to Smith, she quickly lost her temper and began shouting and swearing and attempted to throw a punch at him."

Defence solicitor John McColl said the situation arose from an incident on July 31 when Smith and Mr Abbot were supposed to get married but the wedding was postponed due to financial problems. They decided to have a family lunch but Mr Abbot failed to turn up.

Smith pled guilty to conducting herself in a disorderly manner, struggling with Jamie Abbot and committing a breach of the peace on July 31 at High Street, Nairn. She also pled guilty to conducting herself in a disorderly manner, shouting and swearing and attempting to punch Jamie Abbot at Manse Road on September 8.

Sheriff Ian Abercrombie deferred sentence until August 9 for good behaviour.
