Trying to trace grandmother's family

By SPP Reporter

Sir, – I am trying to trace members of my great-grandmother’s family, who lived in Elgin in the early 20th century.

My great-grandmother, Alexina Cameron Payne, was born in Rothes in 1897, and died in Cupar, Fife, in 1992. My grandad, John Grant Payne, was her first born, in 1920, in the Morayshire Union Poor House.

In about 1921 she married a James Smith of 185 High Street, Elgin, and had a child named Flora, born about 1922; Emily, who was born about 1924, and a male child born in January, 1927.

Alexina married for a second time, to Alexander Munn Terry, in 1956 in Forres, and in 1962 married Andrew Gibson in Blairgowrie.

There may be some descendants of Alexina’s children still alive, and I would like to get in touch with them through my e-mail address bazzamitchell@googlemail.com or by writing to me at 37 Wallacre Road, Wallasey, Wirral, Merseyside CH44 2DX.

Yours etc,

Barrie Mitchell.
