Engineers have worked around the clock to repair the rail embankment.

The rail line between Inverness and Aviemore is due to re-open tomorrow afternoon with repairs to a damaged embankment set to be completed ahead of schedule.

Network Rail engineers have been working around the clock since Friday when the line was closed following a landslip caused by heavy rain. More than 2000 tons of rock has been installed to stabilise the 60 ft section of affected line beween Slochd and Carrbridge.

Initially, the repairs were expected to be completed by Wednesday but a Network Rail spokesman said the line is now expected to open at 2pm tomorrow.

ScotRail will continue putting on replacement bus services between Inverness and Aviemore while East Coast Services is providing bus services between Inverness and Perth until the line re-opens.
