County cruise to three points
ROSS County romped into second place in Irn Bru Division One on Saturday with a storming 4-0 home win against Ayr United.
The Honest Men, who have knocked out SPL sides Caley Thistle and Hearts from the Scottish Communities League Cup this term, had no answer to a Staggies team bang on form.
With draws killing County’s early push for top spot so far this season, this was just the kind of performance and result manager Derek Adams was seeking ahead of this weekend’s international break.
Skipper Richard Brittain continued his impressive scoring run when he netted after Sam Morrow and Iain Vigurs sparked the attack.
In a rare threat for the visitors, Mark Roberts drove a long-range shot wide of Michael Fraser’s goal.
County were soon in complete control but it took on 63 minutes for the second goal to arrive at Victoria Park.
Former Celtic player Paul Lawson showed his killer touch when he bagged the goal with a left-foot strike.
The third goal came after Vigurs was the creator as he sent Northern Irishman Morrow free and his deadly finish beat goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert.
The icing on the cake came when Vigurs, who was instrumental in many of the home moves, converted a cross from Kurtis Byrne late on.
County return to action on October 15 when they travel south to take on Dundee at Dens Park.
