A MEETING held at Forres Academy last night heard that Forres figures heavily in the plans being put together by the Moray Economic partnership.

Businesses, the public sector and community groups from the Forres area met to discuss ongoing work to reduce the economic and social impact of the transition at RAF Kinloss.

The meeting was chaired by Moray MSP Richard Lochhead, with speakers including George McIntyre, the convenor of Moray Council with Roddy Burns, acting cheif executive.

Main speakers were Calum Mcpherson from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Jim Royan, the chair of the Moray Economic Partnership.

A range of local businesses and groups attended the event, and were urged to consult with the partnership to give their visions of how Moray can diversify and boost the locla economy.

A further meeting due to be hled on September 3 to discuss the strategy being launched by the Moray Economic Partnership will be open to the public who are being urged to attend.

“The Forres community has kept the momentum high in ensuring that a Fair Deal is sought for the area," said Mr McPherson. "Forres is a nice town with a lot to offer, and businesses who we have shown around here, always remark on that. We are hoping to have some good news within weeks about companies wanting to come to the area."
