Tain artist throws open cottage doors on her countdown to Christmas

A COSY Easter Ross cottage studio throws open its doors on Friday night to begin its own countdown to Christmas.

The Studio Smith Christmas Fair brings puts a Scandinavian twist on Tain’s festive season providing a showcase for quirky crafts, local pottery and artwork.

Inge Smith plans an Aladdin’s cave of unusual delights which this year will for the first time include a vintage section featuring "upcycled" furniture, delicate china cake stands and dramtic smoke-fired ceramics.

A feauture of the local arts scene for over a decade now, the event acts as a meeting place for old friends and promises "affordable gifts for those who have everything".

Sandra Fryer’s upholstered chairs, Kirstie Thornber’s gossamer woven scarves and Kay Smith’s jewellery will also be on display.

Helping people get into the Christmas spirit, Inge Smith will also be inviting visitors around her kitchen table to enjoy Scandinavian-inspired home-baking washed down with mulled wine.

The Studio Smith Christmas Fair is launched at 1 and 2 Duthus Place, Chapel Road in Tain on Friday evening at 7pm. It then runs on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm and will be open thereafter on Mondays through to Saturdays until December 20.
