Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in the Millburn Road area of Inverness.

The incident happened at around 3.30am on Sunday, close to the Farm & Household Stores building.

The 21-year-old was walking from the city centre with two other people when they were approached by two men.

The victim suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries to his head which required treatment at Raigmore Hospital.

Sergeant Stuart Fitzpatrick said: "We are appealing for information following this apparently unprovoked incident.

"We would ask anyone who was in the area around that time and believes they may have seen this disturbance, or has information about those involved, to get in touch.

"You can call 101 to pass information to police, using reference NN11889/18. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
