Neighbour's drunken rant terrified children, court hears
A DRUNKEN neighbour terrified a woman and her three children when he confronted her about a noisy washing machine claiming "I’m going to get you with or without the kids".
Lewis Hewat (36) was fined £250 at Inverness Sheriff Court on Friday after he admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing on August 10.
The court heard that Hewat lived in the same block of flats as the woman in Mackintosh Road, Inverness, and he was returning to his home after visiting a convenience store when the incident happened.
Depute fiscal Michelle Molley said the woman and her three young children left their flat and were confronted by the accused who started shouting at the them.
The fiscal said the witnesses had no idea what he was talking about and the children were terrified.
Hewat shouted at the woman: "I’m going to get you with or without the kids."
Hewat’s agent said his client and the woman lived in the same building and there was a problem with noise from a washing machine when the woman was doing her laundry.
"He understands he shouldn’t have taken matters into his own hands and should have reported it to the police or housing association," said the solicitor.
