Viking links under spotlight at Black Isle talk

THE north of Scotland’s links to the Vikings will come under the spotlight at a fascinating talk on the Black Isle.

Cromarty History Society’s February talk will be given by Professor Donna Heddle from UHI.

Donna is director of the UHI Institute for Northern Studies based in Orkney. She has won awards for course development and design, is Professor of Northern Heritage and is to speak to the group on 'Only the brave sail from here - The Vikings in Northern Scotland'.

A spokeswoman said: “As the north of the Black Isle at one time had Norse inhabitants when the southern shore was Pictish, much of what she tells us should be very relevant to the past of Cromarty.”

As usual the meeting will begin at 7.30pm on February 18 of February in the Victoria Hall and as usual refreshments will be available afterwards.

A spokeswoman for the group said: “One meeting costs £5 but there is still time to buy membership of the Society for the remainder of the year at £15. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The Society promotes the knowledge of the history of the town and parish of Cromarty and is the Friends organisation for the Cromarty Courthouse Museum.
