Retail manager Susan Cooper is delighted Highland Hospice's long-connection with Alness will continue in a new, more spacious store.

Highland Hospice says it is delighted to be opening its new charity shop in Alness on Saturday, April 1 at 10am.

It's a short but significant flit for the hospice, relocating from its current premises on 10 High Street to "a spacious new location" at 60 High Street.

Newly appointed manager Lynn Wemyss will open the new shop, along with a long-serving volunteer, Beryl Sharp, as guest of honour to cut the ribbon.

The Hospice’s retail manager Susan Cooper said: “The Alness shop has so much history attached to it – it was our second ever Highland Hospice retail outlet, opening in March 1992 and run only by volunteers.”

“We are so pleased that we are able to move to bigger premises, which will allow for us to stock even more fantastic bargains for our customers. We have been flourishing recently in Alness, and this will enhance our success even more.”

“Huge thanks to all of our staff, volunteers and customers for their patience while we relocate. We hope that old and new customers alike will pop in to have a look at the fantastic items we have on offer!”

She added, “We are always looking for good quality donations which we move between our shops to where they are best placed in order to maximise fundraising. A large part of our income comes from the Hospice’s shops across the whole of the Highlands, and our retail operation plays a vital part in enabling us to provide a high standard of care to patients and their loved ones at a difficult time.”

The shop is open on Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and thereafter Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm. from If anyone is interested in joining its team of volunteers, please contact volunteer@highlandhospice.org.uk or visit www.highlandhospice.org/volunteer

What does Highland Hospice do?

At Highland Hospice we aim to support people, their families and carers, living with an advancing, life-shortening illness in the Highlands to live the best possible life and to prepare for and experience the best possible death.

By managing pain and other physical symptoms, we help make time and space for reflection, for gaining perspective and for achieving a measure of calm and tranquillity.

Crucially, our team also offers advice with the emotional, social and spiritual issues that may arise and works with patients and loved ones at a time of transition to help them enjoy, value and commemorate life.

By delivering and sharing our skills in our Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Centres, in local hospitals and care homes and at home, we seek to provide our patients and their loved ones with respect, dignity and choice both during the patient’s illness and into bereavement.

Highland Hospice is committed to the principles of equality and diversity and our services are offered free of charge to all adults in the Highlands. We are an independent local charity reliant on our community and your contribution of time or money, as a volunteer or donor, can make a meaningful difference to people when they need it most.
