AN Easter Ross town’s showcase of more than 100 paintings over a four-day period put Highland artists in the frame for greater recognition and set the scene for what it’s hoped will become an annual event.
Invergordon Museum and Royal Legion was the focus of an event which also aimed to attract more people to the historic town and shed light on some of its attractions and businesses.
James Collier, one of the organisers of the showcase, said afterwards: “The event was a success.

“We received over 100 paintings and a large number of visitors throughout the four days but the Sunday was particularly busy and it saw us with 500 people through the doors, which was a combination of people from ships as well as those who came specially for the exhibition as well.”
He added: “The feedback from the artists has been positive, with all sharing their delight in being able to support the museum and the legion, while also being able to display their artwork and having the opportunity to sell some.
“One of the main things many of the artists have stated is that they would have preferred a longer exhibition.
“We will be sending feedback surveys to the artists to see what other things they feel we did well and the things they’d like us to change.
“We are hoping this will be an annual event, but as a trial it was quite fantastic.”
The Museum was able to raise a little over £500 from the event.
Mr Collier previously said the historic port “should be attracting even more people and events than it does.”
