THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for two Highland charities after an Easter ross daffodil day in a stunning setting.

Foulis Castle, home of the Munro family, again hosted its annual daffodil tea with Macmillan Cancer Support and Mikeysline.

The event has been a tradition since it was started by Clan Chief Hector Munro’s grandmother, Eva Gascoigne, after the Second World War for charity benefit. It has gone from strength to strength, becoming a celebration of Highland culture.

A spokesperson for Macmillan thanked the Munro family, adding: “Volunteers really enjoyed chatting to people with many expressing their thanks to all that the charity does to support family members going through cancer, not only through the Macmillan nurses but also with information on how to live well while having treatment through all the different services available”.

All money collected will be used in the Highlands. They added: “We are always looking for volunteers. If anyone would like to join our team please get in touch on 07488315340.”

Mikeysline said: “A big thank you to everyone who came along. We are so grateful to the castle team and Munro family for including us. A shout out to all the volunteers stallholders, musicians, princesses, tractors and dancers who made it such a wonderful day.”

Storyteller Lizzie McDougall called it “such a joyful occasion with friends and family meeting up amongst the daffodils”.

She told yarns from around the Cromarty and Moray Firth that feature in her story quilt. She said: “These stories have been told for generations and inspired both Hugh Miller and Neil Gunn so it’s lovely to pass them on for today’s children.”
