PICTURES: Fèis na h-Òige ends with a concert as pupils learn traditional Gaelic song
A WEEK-LONG focus on Gaelic music lessons came to a close with a special concert.
Fèis na h-Òige returned for the first time since the pandemic started from July 4-8, as more than 70 children spent time learning guitar, fiddle, accordion, piano and singing at Inverness Gaelic Primary School.
Pupils spent each day learning different lessons and songs, which they would come together at the end of the day to sing.
The concert saw the culmination of teachers and pupils’ hard work, which included a variety of musical performances and one drama group performing a play they had written.
Freelance drama teacher Debbie Mackay said she really enjoyed teaching her classes as she got to see more of the kids and their personalities.
Louise Holling, secretary for the organiser, said: “It gives them a chance to keep up Gaelic during the summer. It’s about tradition.
“A lot of the kids have island families so it’s good for them to get immersed in the tradition of the music.
“It’s all about being inclusive and letting them do what they can.”
Fèis na h-Òige is 30 this year.
