PICTURES: Easter Ross town of Tain gets down to business of festive countdown with Christmas lights switch-on and open air market
Traditional carols, Scottish dancing and a festive market combined to ensure that Tain’s annual Christmas lights switch-on hit the spot with the crowd on Saturday.
Hundreds of people packed the town’s main street to shop, eat, play and take part in the countdown to the switch-on which lit up the sky in blue and silver.
Dave Macrae, community liaison officer for Tain and District Development Trust, which organised the event with Tain Gala Association, said: “We had a wide range of stalls selling everything from Christmas gifts and crafts to food and drink, rides for children, carols and dancing – and the weather was kind to us. The town centre was packed and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a fantastic night.”

He paid tribute to volunteers who helped make it a success: “We had people arranging road closures and diversions, putting up signs, helping to set up stalls and keeping everyone safe. An event like this cannot happen without a huge amount of support and for that we are most grateful.”
