PICTURES: Splash of colour for South Lodge Primary 50th year celebrations as fund for ‘school song’ recorded by UK chart artist gathers pace
Primary children, parents and former pupils of South Lodge Primary School in Invergordon added a splash of colour to its 50th anniversary celebrations last Friday.
Participants were showered with powdered colours aplenty while racing around the school circuit of this year’s South Lodge summer colour run.

The annual event, which was organised by Invergordon active schools coordinator Jake Williams, also saw a group of Invergordon Academy pupils — some formerly of South Lodge — join in on the action.
South Lodge Primary head teacher David Hayes-Macleod said: “The colour run has become a yearly fixture for the pupils from Primary 1 all the way up to Primary 7 here at South Lodge Primary School, and this year is even more special as South Lodge celebrates its 50th birthday.
“The event was a fantastic success. Many parents were also invited to join in on the fun. We’d like to say a massive thank you to Jake and his volunteers.
“Our parent council were also on hand to serve some well deserved refreshments to all who took part, so a huge thanks go to them as well.”
Friday’s colour run was the latest event in a series of activities planned to mark the school’s birthday in 2024.
Organisers are now looking forward to a Gala and Community Party Day to be held on Saturday, August 31.
At the same time, South Lodge Primary parent council has been raising funds towards the cost of securing the services of a singer-songwriter to create and compose an “original” song to mark the special occasion.
A sum of over £1300 has been raised so far.
Former UK Top 40 charting performer Antony Brant, who previously sang with the band V, has been identified as the artist to put the song together.
V’s first single "Blood, Sweat and Tears" was released in May 2004 and went straight into the UK charts at number six.

The parent council also hope to fund the replacement of “out of date and faded artwork” at the school car park entrance.
Last year, Primary 7 pupils worked with local artist Kiera Hogg to come up with new artwork which can illustrate the history of both South Lodge Primary and Invergordon.
It is hoped that the new artwork can be unveiled as part of this year’s celebrations.
