Dingwall audience promised a play 'unlike anything we have done before' as Every Brilliant Thing adapted for Word on the Street showcase
A ROSS-SHIRE amateur dramatics group is taking on a play "unlike anything we have done before and unlike anything the audience will have seen before".
Dingwall Players will perform Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan as part of the Word on the Street Festival running from May 18 to 20.
In the play, a young girl attempts to ease her mother's depression by creating a list of all the best things in the world. Everything worth living for.
Through adulthood, as the list grows, she learns the deep significance it has on her own life. Every Brilliant Thing is described as "a hilarious and heart-wrenching play about depression and the lengths we will go for those we love".
Dingwall Players' Nick Fearne said: "Rehearsals going well. It's a really interesting piece – unlike anything we have done before and unlike anything the audience will have seen before. "Folk are likely to be laughing one minute and moved the next."
The play is described as suitable for 14-plus years. While it is written for one person, Dingwall Players has permission from the playwright to use more than one person. Mr Fearne said: "We have five actors telling the story. Best way to get tickets is on line at www.dingwallplayers.org The Word on the Street Programme can also be downloaded there."
The play will be performed on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20 at 7.30pm at Dingwall Town Hall.
Mr Fearne added: "As for the rest of Word on the Street it is shaping up nicely – we have a comedy night in the Ross-shire Club on Thursday, May 18; a Gaelic artist in residence supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig; a chance for folk to have a hands-on experience in the Newton Room, and a day long programme in Dingwall Town Hall on the Saturday.
"We are looking for folk to bring along any typewriters they may have to create an exhibition in the Town Hall – just bring them along between 9 and 10am on Saturday, May 20– all types, all ages, all conditions!"
