Police tips offered in rural crime fight
ROSS-shire’s country-dwellers have been issued with advice to protect themselves from the threat of rural crime.
Officers from Police Scotland’s Preventions and Interventions and Wildlife Crime units attended a special awareness-raising day at Dingwall Mart as part of a UK-wide day of action. Officers were on hand to discuss ways of helping to ensure people living in more remote areas remain safe from a threat which is typically considered more prevalent during the winter months with longer hours of darkness.
The stand in the café area of Dingwall Mart was open to all.
Preventions and Interventions officer Constable Keri Jones said the idea behind the session was to meet members of the local farming and rural community “with a view to helping them keep their properties and equipment safe and secure”.
He said: “Thieves may target high value equipment and fuel in rural areas believing them to be an easy target.
“This can have a devastating effect on the livelihood of those unfortunate enough to be targeted so by offering advice on the most up to date security techniques we will hopefully reduce instances of rural crime in the far north of Scotland.”
