Princess Anne awards ‘outstanding’ young Cromarty woman with Eric Liddell accolade
A “simply outstanding” young woman from Cromarty has been awarded with a prestigious accolade from Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.
Member of the Black Isle Youth Development team, Orlagh McIver, was presented with the Eric Liddell Award earlier this month for her outstanding contributions to youth work in Scotland.
To mark 100 years since his famous Olympic win, the Eric Liddell Award recognised 20 Scottish young people who have made a remarkable contribution to their communities.

The Black Isle youngster has raked in over 900 hours in her Saltire award, and over 880 for her High Life Highland leadership work.
Wanda Mackay, youth development officer for the Black Isle, said: “What a fabulous night of a lifetime — meeting Princess Anne and Eric Liddell’s daughter, Patricia Liddell Russell.
“We very much enjoyed our private VIP session with her royal highness, who spent time listening to the great work Orlagh has achieved as well as discussing coastal rowing. HRH was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
“Orlagh, as every single person said, is absolutely outstanding. They say you can’t put a wise head on young shoulders, but Orlagh proved us all wrong — through hard times, trauma, grief and sadness, she has found ways to help others. She finds hope in the darkest of days.”
Previously, Orlagh’s mum said: “We knew all about Eric Liddell in our house because Orlagh did a presentation on him in P6, as her inspiring Scots person.
“The team at Cromarty Youth Cafe always say it's the children who are great, but we are completely and utterly blessed to have the youth workers. So many communities aren't as fortunate. Thank you Orlagh for being the amazing human you are.”
