Promising Gaelic film-makers honoured
HIGHLAND film-makers of all ages have been honoured for their efforts at an annual Gaelic awards ceremony.
The FilmG awards recognise the best films produced in the Gaelic language, with pupils from Millburn Academy in Inverness taking top proze in the Gaelic learners category for their gripping film, Unknowing.
Pupils from Alness Academy made the shortlist in the same category.
Social media star Calum MacLean, who is from Inverness and best known for his appearances on the BBC’s The Social and BBC Alba’s wild swimming series, was named best industry director for his film Fo Bhuaidh.
Mr MacLean (pictured) said: “I’m delighted to be awarded the FilmG best industry director prize. The standard in this year’s competition was excellent, with some very strong films.”
And there were further honours for Dingwall’s Eilidh Johnson (18) whose short film, Glaiste, won awards for best mobile short and the HIE most promising director title.
The annual competition began in 2008 and is run by MG ALBA and media company Cànan Graphics.
Murdo MacSween, communications manager at MG ALBA said: “It is wonderful to see so much young talent nurturing their Gaelic language skills.”
Also attending the ceremony was deputy first minister John Swinney, who said: “Broadcasting Gaelic-speaking film and television is vital to ensure its continuation at the heart of our cultural identity.”
