Raigmore doctor, Kinlochbervie teacher and Achiltibuie award-winning author officially become British citizens

A doctor, a teacher and an award-winning author are among the latest people living locally to officially become British citizens.

At s ceremony held in Dingwall Council Chambers on May 15, Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty Joanie Whiteford was “delighted” to welcome the three new British citizens on behalf of the king, alongside registrar Sara Krzyzanowski.

The first new citizen was Sara Pintado Mira from Spain, who is a geography and history teacher living in Dornoch and teaching at Kinlochbervie High School.

Raigmore Hospital doctor Muyed Kamal Awadalla Mohamed, from Sudan, was also awarded citizenship alongside Sarah Bernstein, the author of Booker Prize-shortlisted novel Study for Obedience.

She is originally from Montreal in Canada and now resides in Achiltibuie.

Mrs Whiteford said: “I am so delighted they have chosen to live here in the Highlands and I hope they will be very happy living here.”
