ScotRail adds Kids for a Quid deal to Highland Railcards, meaning even cheaper railway travel for holders in the region
Rail travel for families with a Highland Railcard just got even cheaper - after ScotRail announced it can now be used with its Kids for a Quid scheme.
Highland Railcards, which cost £15 and last for an entire year before needing to be renewed, entitle the holder to half-price rail travel for any journey on the Far North, Kyle, and the West Highland lines. It also entitles users to 50 per cent off journeys between Inverness Airport and the Highland capital.
It means passengers have often already covered most, if not all, of the cost of the railcard the very first time they use it.
But now, as well as 50 per cent off tickets, new changes have also added even more potential savings for families.
Prior to the new change, an adult bearing a valid Highland Railcard was able to take up to two children with them for the additional fare of just £2 per child.
But the addition of ScotRail’s Kids for a Quid scheme to the Highland Railcard means that up to four children can now travel with the holder, paying just £1 per child.
It means an adult travelling with four children could pay for just 50 per cent of the cost of their own ticket, and an additional £4 to cover all of the children’s fares.
ScotRail said the improvements were part of its “ongoing commitment to encourage more people to travel by rail”, and will allow families the opportunity to get around one of the most scenic parts of Scotland for less.
Claire Dickie, ScotRail Commercial Director, said: “The Highland Railcard is a very popular product with our customers, and I am delighted that we can now allow people to use the Kids for a Quid ticket alongside it.
“This is a fantastic boost, doubling the number of children who can travel with an adult, while at the same time reducing the cost of that ticket from £2 to £1.
“We want as many people to use ScotRail services as possible, and we hope customers will take advantage of this change to see some of the most scenic parts of the country.”
