All Scotrail services from Inverness to Wick and Thurso halted after vehicle crashes into rail bridge between Tain and Fearn in Ross-shire
A vehicle’s collision with a railway bridge has forced the closure of the far north railway line between Inverness and Wick.
Network Rail issued the alert just after noon today after the accident at a rail bridge between Tain and Fearn.
All ScotRail services between Inverness and Caithness were halted while specialist staff journeyed north to assess damage to the railway structure.
A spokesman for Network Rail Scotland said: “We've been forced to close the line between Tain and Fearn following a vehicle colliding with a railway bridge.
“A specialist engineer is on their way to inspect the bridge, but they are a significant distance away.”
A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge between Tain and Fearn all lines are closed.
“Our services between Inverness and Wick will be cancelled, delayed or revised. I'll update you all as soon as I can.”
