Dingwall hails teenage music sensation at accordion and fiddle club
A TEENAGE multi-instrumentalist wowed the audience of a Dingwall music night which boasted a strong cast of players from far and wide.
Dingwall and District Accordion and Fiddle Club’s February gathering attracted a large crowd with a variety of visiting players.
Unusually, button key accordions outnumbered piano accordions.

Heather Lyon from Embo, on fiddle, got the evening off to a good start accompanied by Monica MacLean on five row accordion with Maggie Jamieson on drums and Christine Matheson on piano.
Next Graham Wood from Tain went on stage to play pipe marches along with Maggie and Christine.
Dennis Hurst from Munlochy got a great reception playing popular waltzes on his two row button box.
Murray Cowie, from Orkney borrowed an accordion and took the audience on a tour of Scotland with singalong Scottish waltzes accompanied by Christine on piano.
A visit from Calum MacColl, BBC weatherman, had feet tapping to his favourite pipe marches and Gaelic waltzes on one of his three row Shand Morinos. Calum is from Lochaber but based in Airdrie.
Guest artiste for the evening was the Georgie MacLennan Band from Rogart. Along with the ladies in the band, she gave an outstanding performance showing how talented she is in more than one musical discipline.
Georgie, who is sixteen, began by playing the pipes before taking her place on stage to play her three row button key accordion confidently and with perfect timing. She was accompanied by her tutor, Monica MacLean on five row button accordion, Christine Matheson on piano and her fourteen year old sister Berry on drums. In the first session they played a selection of pipe marches, hornpipes and waltzes. Then Georgie picked up her fiddle and played an interesting medley which included a strathspey. She finished the first session with some lively Irish jigs on accordion.
After the interval Eric Bell from Huntly played solo with his midi. Eric was Senior Accordion Champion at Perth at the age of 16.
The final act before the guest artiste was Bob Begg from Forres with his two row button key accordion.
Georgie and the band returned to the stage and again she played pipes, accordion and fiddle with ease.
Maggie Jamieson joined the band on drums. A highlight on the fiddle was Georgie playing the slow air Hector the Hero. Georgie is a lady with a great musical future ahead.
The ladies in the band received a rapturous applause at the end of the evening for their fantastic performance.
Special thanks to Maggie Jamieson and Christine Matheson who not only played with the band but accompanied many of the visiting players.
Lindsay Weir and Colin Garvin are the guest artistes at the next meeting on Wednesday, March 5.
