Success achieved 'the Ross County way' as club prepares to party with fans

A FAMILY-friendly fun day which could double as a title-winning celebration for Ross County will allow players and fans to show appreciation for one another's support during a hugely successful season.

That's the view of club chairman Roy MacGregor ahead of Saturday's free afternoon of entertainment at the Global Energy Stadium in Dingwall.

The Staggies need a single point from their last home tie of the season against Queen of the South on Friday night to clinch the title – and automatic promotion back to the top flight.

With a six-point lead and vastly superior goal difference against chasers Dundee United, it's virtually a done deal for the Ross-shire club.

Mr MacGregor said he shared the disappointment felt by many fans when the final home match of the season was switched from Saturday afternoon to Friday night, for television scheduling purposes.

The Saturday party in the park, which will start at 2pm with music from wedding and functions band Dark Horse, is a way to allow all fans the chance to celebrate a season which has also seen an Irn-Bru Cup win.

He said: "Like many others, I hoped our last home game of the season would be on a Saturday at 3pm. I even went to the BBC to ask about this but it is contractual.

"We are in a really good position and we thought it would be a good idea to do something on the Saturday."

Fans will get the chance to mingle with players and pose for selfies as well as see the results of the club's Player of the Year awards.

Mr MacGregor said he was delighted to raise the profile of the Highlands through the success of the club and expressed his wish that local rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle – who must fight for promotion through the play-off system – will also return to the top flight.

The businessman also proclaimed his delight that success had been achieved "the Ross County way" with a management team including top former players who had all "been on the journey" that has seen the club rise through the ranks to be a significant force in Scottish football.

The club's management duo, Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson, are both former players.

He said of the Saturday event: "We hope as many supporters as possible can make it along on the day to mingle with the players, take photos and get autographs and see the winner of the Player of the Year award announced too."
