A VERY successful fancy dress dance was held in the Public Hall, Conon, on Thursday.

The committee which had organised the function are endeavouring to raise funds for the provision of a Christmas Treat to the children of the district, and the attendance at last week's dance proved the public's approval, and assures the success of their efforts.

The majority of the dancers were in costume, and these were varied and original, as well as artistic. Quite a number of Dingwallians were

present which shows their appreciation of the support which recent and similar functions held in the county town have had from their Conon

neighbours. Messrs Macrae and Morrison acted as joint M.C.'s, and the music was provided by Mr Andrew's Band from Inverness.

A special train for the South of England left on the forenoon on Tuesday. About 400 men, with many women and children, were conveyed home, and now the (Invergordon) Dockyard and the streets have a deserted appearance. Another special train is leaving later in the week.

The offence of cycling without lights after sunset is still practised in the county and at Dingwall Sheriff Court on Tuesday. Sheriff the Hon. Huntly D. Gordon, in imposing fines of 5/- to 10/6 again warned culprits that the lighting regulations must be obeyed.

MR Hector Mackenzie, headmaster of Logie Easter School, who takes up his new appointment as Headmaster at Munlochy this week, was presented with a handsome cheque to mark his waygoing.

The gift was handed over at an informal little ceremony by Mr John Whiteford, Shandwick Mains, who expressed the thanks of the community to Mr Mackenzie for his good work during his years at Logie Easter.

A native of Gairloch, and a Gaelic scholar of merit, Mr Mackenzie is also a fine vocalist in the ancient language and did much to revive interest in both in the Logie district.

He has also written some very interesting sketches broadcast on B.B.C. radio programmes concerning men and events of the Highland and Islands.

Dingwall Town Council have let the following parts of Stafford House as follows:- Two upstairs rooms – Mr J. MacVey, B.B.C.; three upstairs rooms and store on ground floor – W.R.V.S.; front shop – Mr J. Urquhart, cabinetmaker. The rentals are £100, £250 and £200 per annum respectively.

NEXT Wednesday evening Invergordon Academy will be presenting their 34th annual Carol Service in the Church of Scotland at 7.30pm.

The popular event has now become a tradition in the life of the school and is eagerly awaited by the many parents and friends who have attended it over the years.

The service will be introduced by the Rev. David Scott, the guest organist is Mr Robert Wilkie and the lessons read by pupils and staff.

The performance which will involve over 100 pupils and members of staff will be given by four choirs, soloists and orchestra under the direction of Mr Ewen Stewart, principal teacher of music.

Plockton High School pupils Hugh Macquarrie and Will Morgan represented North of Scotland Schools against Glasgow Schools in Aberdeen recently.

Both have played in all five representative matches this season and are looking forward to the final game against Lothian Schools.
